Data Engineer for group.ONE

We are looking for a Data Engineer to help us to build a modern data stack for group.ONE. We believe that leveraging the vast amounts of data that we collect can provide our customers with a better experience as well as make better decisions around the company. As a Data Engineer, you will be a central player in the group's data organisation and given the responsibility to maintain and further develop our data platform.

What you will be working on

As a Data Engineer, some of your main tasks will include maintaining and building flows from various data sources, such as Hadoop, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, to our Snowflake data warehouse. You will work closely with the data team and a range of other stakeholders to develop data models and pipelines for research, reporting and machine learning.

Development and maintenance of pipelines

  • Maintain and monitor already developed pipelines, including writing scripts, schedules and CI/CD development
  • Introduce new data sources and align them to prevalent structures and architectures
  • Identify opportunities for new data acquisition, internally and externally
  • Ensure compliance to group.ONE GDPR practice
  • Support machine learning initiatives by designing pipelines and perform basic feature engineering
  • Provide ready processes for quick implementation of acquired companies into group.ONE data platform

Data architecture and modelling

  • Design a group.ONE-aligned customer model used across all brands
  • Support BI developers in creating a coherent customer model and a framework for creating dashboards and reports
  • Support continuous development of overall data architecture and tools used

Data Documentation and discovery

  • Provide documentation on data sources, best practices as well as anonymisation methods
  • Provide documentation and version control of production code

  • Experience and/or interest in the open-source community and a confident Linux user
  • Communicative and value building strong relationships with colleagues and multiple stakeholders, and have the ability to explain complex topics in simple terms
  • Detail-oriented when needed. Being able to decide on the right level of details, e.g. knowing the difference between important data from less important, and important tasks from less important ones
  • Pragmatic, willing to use the best tool-for-the-job
  • Keep promises and maintain being a trusted business partner

Skills and qualifications wish list

  • Proficient in various SQL and NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL, Snowflake or Hadoop
  • Knowledge of various ETL techniques and frameworks including tools like DBT, Airflow, Greater Expectations and different CLI tools
  • You have a high level of scripting ability, i.e. in Bash or Python
  • You have a high level of version control methodologies and tools
  • Experience in data governance, role and user management
  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes and/or Docker
  • Experience with Machine Learning toolkits, including H2O, DataRobot, Tensorflow, Jupyter, MLflow or Kubeflow
  • Experience in consuming restful API
